Vanille Havane 'Cuir des Abysses' is a 2025 release from artisanal perfumery Les Indemodables, composed by perfumer Antoine Lie. Les Indemodables aims to "dust off the writing codes of the great olfactory families by playing with overdoses of ingredients or unexpected associations, but without ever betraying the foundations of these olfactory constructions." Vanille Havane 'Cuir des Abysses' has an aromatic palette of sweet. tobacco, vanilla, cacao, smoky, floral, warm spicy, woody, vanilla, animalic, rum, and leather accords.

"Every day, we grow more convinced that perfumery must return to authenticity, and to fragrances that reflect the very best of what nature and our craft can offer. Above all, perfumery must remain rare. Not by intention, but by necessity: the ultra-confidential streams of natural raw materials we use define our limits; and ‘Cuir des Abysses’ is a perfect illustration of this philosophy.
The story begins, quite unexpectedly, with chance. The founder of our in House-Lab -expert in sourcing exotic natural materials- discovered the story of ‘Russian leather’ and its accidental resurrection (an absolutely novel-worthy tale!) through a short feature in a fashion journal that discussed the rarest leathers. Fascinated, he decided to investigate. Months of research eventually led him to a single destination: an artisanal tannery that had succeeded in reviving the legendary ‘Russian’ tanning technique. Securing access to a small quantity of this tanned leather (never sold in its raw state) was a true battle..
Once in our hands, our R&D team embark on a challenge never before attempted: to extract, capture, and concentrate the mythical scent of this leather. A true first in perfumery.

Homemade and unique extracts used: # Russian Leather Ultrasound extract 8%
Maturation: 2 weeks (letting the mixed formula (fragrance) mature for 1-3 weeks, depending on the composition.)
Maceration: 1 week (the fragrance is mixed with alcohol, and the solution is left to rest for 1-3 weeks, depending on the composition.)
