Fitzgerald & Guislain PRUNIER À MINUIT extrait
Prunier a Minuit was a 2017 release from niche natural perfumers Fitzgerald & Guislan. Inspired by antique perfumery, this Amber Floral fragrance has a scent profile of amber, woody, tobacco, balsamic, sweet, fresh spicy, animalic, smoky, aromatic, and rose.
From Fitzgerald & Guislan:
"The artisanal perfume makers Fitzgerald & Guislain employ time-honoured techniques and ingredients of the utmost quality to create fragrances inspired by the Victorian era, but modern in vision. This 15ml/0.5oz extrait de parfum of Prunier a Minuit is a nod to the Orientalism of the early 20th century, filled with plum, tuberose, & jasmine note atop a dry base of incense and amber. It is presented in a a classic crystal splash flacon within a hand-cut wooden box. Stunning.
Prunier aims to capture the joy of a midnight tipple in a moonlit Chinese forest. True to the theme of imbibing, the combination of plum and a rich white floral heart of tuberose and jasmine give the fragrance a distinctly boozy characteristic. However, the fragrance avoids the risk of veering into the territory of cloyingly sweet fruit liqueurs by balancing its sweet top and heart with a dry, incense base dominated by hydrocarboresine (a natural amber material created by a fractional distillation of cistus resin)."
"Prunier à Minuit or “Plum Tree at Midnight”, is part of our goal for 2017 to create a series of unconventional fruity perfumes. Fruit accords are so often associated with sweet or syrupy gourmand creations, so we wanted challenge ourselves to create a set of fragrances that broke with that tradition and displayed fruity notes in original and unexpected ways. The perfume stars a rich plum accord created by combining tobacco and peach, supported by spicy florals and incense.
Prunier à Minuit is an elixir of incense and plum wine inspired by Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai’s “Drinking Alone Under the Moon”. The base notes of wood smoke and incense represent smoke curling up from the distant village that the speaker of the poem might be overlooking as he raises his glass of wine to the moon. Night flowers of tuberose and jasmine swirl with the heady fumes of the plum wine as the speaker dances in intoxicated exhilaration, creating an ambrosial mixture that rises up to the stars on the warm evening air."
"Fitzgerald and Guislain is composed of Alexander Chesebro and Ian Fitzgerald, two men from the Sacramento area of California who were captivated by scent, and its potential as an artistic medium for storytelling.
In our contemporary world of mass-produced artificial fragrances there are few opportunities to discover the true potential of fragrance as an impactful and inspiring art form. As a result, many people have become turned off to fragrances in recent years. We want to change that – our mission is to offer our customers the opportunity to rediscover the beauty of scent through artisan, natural perfumery, just as we did on our journey to becoming perfumers.
Drawing on both historical perfumery techniques from the nineteenth century and the modern principles of natural perfumery, we craft scents centered on telling an olfactory tale. whether the scent transports you to the majestic forests of the California coast or whisks you away to the stage of the grand opera, we seek to create a perfume experience that is as inspiring and invigorating to the imagination as it is to the senses.
Our passions were lit on the Mendocino coast in a chance visit to a remarkable perfume boutique tucked away between quaint victorian street fronts. With the guidance of perfumers and perfume aficionados, we set forth on the path to creating our own perfumes and eventually, Fitzgerald and Guislain."
