The decade had intense energy, confidence, and a relentless optimism that inspired me to create Ultra. At the heart of Ultra the narcissus shines. Its rich and radiant character brings to life the vibrant spirit of the 1980s/ At the same time the flower's name and its narcotic and intoxicating aroma also hint at something darker as they recall the Greek myth of Narcissus - a cautionary tale that was most likely lost on the hedonists of the decade...."

“In this context, perfumer Hiram Green’s Ultra is an extraordinary piece of work, an all-natural-materials homage to the great synthetic florals, a case of nature imitating art imitating nature. Ultra reminds me of Gerhard Richter’s paintings of photographs, intended as the revenge of painterly realism against the mechanical illusion of it. The first impression of Ultra is of a pillar of light, an olfactory sensation of such brightness that in my experience only a shot of fresh wheatgrass juice comes close. This shriek is too bright to have color or volume. Only as it fades can figures moving within it be discerned: narcissus and jasmine. Unlike most florals, Ultra fades gracefully without becoming skanky or harsh, all the way to a smooth, green drydown with a touch of clove.”
