1000 by Jean Patou is a perfumery classic fragrance, first launched in 1972 as a "super Joy." Per Grace Hummel of Cleopatra's Boudoir 1000 was named after its lab number: it was the 1,000th attempt to nail the vision of Jean Patou and Jean Kerleo. Like its sibling Joy, 1000 relied on some exceptionally grand ingredients. "Known as "the essence of extravagance," the 1000 scent is made from a jasmine essence that takes over seven million flowers to produce a single kilogram," and the miniscule three week bloom of Osmanthus limited its production, resulting in a highly exclusive fragrance.
