Coty LA ROSE JACQUEMINOT vintage eau de toilette

La Rose Jacqueminot was the fragrance that started it all for legendary perfumer Francois Coty. As the legend goes, Coty, frustrated by his never-ending rejections by perfume boutiques and stores, finally smashed a bottle on the counter of the Parisian department store Le Grands Magasins du Louvre. Women supposedly flocked towards Coty and the shattered bottle, asking what the fragrance was and where they could buy it. 

Despite rumours that Coty had organized this scene and hired the women as a way to incite interest in the fragrance, the orders began to flow in nonetheless. This fragrance was La Rose Jacqueminot, a creamy, powdery, floral inspired by a variation of cabbage rose named for the French military general Jacqueminot. 

The original run of La Rose Jacqueminot was produced from 1904 through the 1930's before being discontinued in its original formula. In 1986, a second run was brought back as part of the Chateau Collection, with the formula slightly tweaked for the tastes of the modern woman, with the pure parfum variation left out as it was considered too strong for the current market. A final run of La Rose Jacqueminot was launched in 2004 in the extremely limited quantity of only 200 as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Coty. All versions of La Rose Jacqueminot are rare.
