Guerlain DERBY vintage after shave
Guerlain DERBY vintage after shave
Derby was originally released by Guerlain in 1985 by perfumer Jean-Paul Guerlain. In its original vintage version, Derby appears in the "Aigle," or eagle flacon. This bottle was made specifically for Derby, designed by regular Guerlain bottle designer Robert Granai and produced by famed french glass maker Pochet du Courval. Derby has an aromatic profile of leather, warm spicy, fresh spicy, white floral, rose, smoky, mossy, herbal, aromatic, and earthy, and woody notes.
Basenotes reviewer Varanis Ridari describes Derby as the iconic fragrance of a generation for men in their 50's and 60's, as Creed Aventus is for the younger generation. He explains how it represented a phase of "ultramasculine," "powerhouse chypre" men's perfumery in the 1970's and 1980's, like Chanel's Antaeus and Ralph Lauren's Chaps. Reviewers, and wearers, overall describe Derby as a serious, hard-hitting fragrance - it doesn't offer a great sense of playfulness or light-heartedness. This strength and maturity led to its discontinuation, before being brought back in the exclusive Les Parisiens collection, unfortunately much changed in character.
